FAQs

Where was the safe and sound practitioner trained?

I was trained in the SSP at Unyte Ils.

Can SSP be done remotely / via video call, or does it need to be in person?

It can be done online and in person.

How long does an SSP program last?

It depends on how many sessions we decide to do beforehand, but the full protocol is usually around 10 to 15 sessions (30 minutes to an hour), spread between one month and a half and three months.
Access to the music without a serious follow up is not professional. If a practitioner offers the access to music with no or minimal follow up, know that this is not recommended by Unyte and is not ethical.
This is a serious intervention and it needs constant supervision and regular meetings.

I always meet with you beforehand (take a free apointment) to evaluate if the protocol can be suitable for you and has shown improvements to other people.

Is SSP suitable for my situation (anxiety, autism, sensory issues, trauma, ADHD, auditory hypersensitivity)?
Does SSP replace psychotherapy, or is it a complement to it?
WHat does a session look like?

My approach to the SSP is to coach you into befriending your nervous system and reactions and take back the wheel. I always encourage to have the support of a psychotherapist in parallel if needed with whom I can also communicate.

Is there a version for children? Do parents need to go through it too?

I often encourage a parent to go through the SSP before the child, especially if there is already nervous system dysregulation. In this way, it is very easy to accompany the child as a team, knowing fully what it's all about. That being said, it is not compulsory.

What equipment is needed (headphones, app, tablet/phone)?

A computer for the videoconference, a phone or tablet for the music and headphones covering the ears without noise cancellation.

What do you do during a listening session (calm activity, drawing, breathing)?

You can walk in the room if you need to move, draw, make a puzzle, write or just lay down.

More questions?

During a regular meeting, we talk and exchange, do somatic exercises (like breathing patterns or other practices) then you listen to the music and we end up with a debrief of the session.
As we progress in the protocol, you can start listening by yourself.

Are the changes long-lasting?

Usually they are, but at the condition that you continue to apply the principles and exercises taught during the protocol.

Is it for everyone and are there side effects?

No, it is not for everyone and everything, that is why it is important to meet and talk beforehand.
Side effects are possible but we mitigate it as much as possible by going slowly and cautiously.
